Item Description
Marianne Saltiel is an artist from Mexico City. She is mostly an abstract painter and her work includes large pieces on paper and canvas using oil. In her free time, she makes crafts such as tile mosaics and small prints. She now lives in Culver City so she can be close to her grandson Liam, a TKA student!
Saltiel's paintings are elegant, atmospheric abstractions that simultaneously evoke ages passed, landscape, the cosmos and memories. Passages of script-like markings incised into the wet paint suggests fragments of thought or ancient writings, while evincing the artist's ability. Saltiel melds multicultural, historic, and contemporary elements with a sophistication and sensitivity rare among today's artists.
Saltiel's technique is unusual. She works in the floor of her studio preferably on large sheets of high quality acid free paper. She uses her hands, rather than brushes to apply the paint in translucent layers. Scrip-like markings are incised into the wet paint with thumbnail.
This small painting measures about 11 x 14 inches including border.
