Hardcover with dust jacket, 250 pp. The dust jacket of this copy has some bends at the top front edge. English translation of book originally published in Japanese. Biography of William Wheeler (1851-1932), who was invited by the Meiji government in 1876 to establish the Sapporo Agricultural College, which later became Hokkaido University. He served as president of the college from 1877-1879. Except for his four years in Japan, Wheeler spent the rest of his life in his hometown of Concord, Massachusetts. A personal history you may not know.
