About the Artist:
Sue Anne Foster of Carmichael, CA first encountered the Labyrinth experience at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco in 1990. Feeling called to participate in the rebirth of this ancient symbol, she participated in the first organized gathering of labyrinth builders in New Mexico in 1995. In 1997 she organized a labyrinth conference in Sacramento and more recently served as chair of the 2002 international Labyrinth Society conference held in Sacramento. Each year Sue Anne sets up a temporary labyrinth at Earth Day inviting the community to experience the winding path. She and her husband Gary also share their 40 x 50 foot garden labyrinth in Carmichael.
Channel 6 viewers may remember Sue Anne as one of the climbers on the expedition team that climbed Mt. Aconcagusa in Argentina, which was the subject of a PBS documentary. She was one of the 17 breast cancer survivors who has found creating art and walking the labyrinth to be healing factors in her recovery.
Sue Anne Foster, Ph.D., MA in Art from CSUS taught a class in creativity at Am. River College for 18 years. Her canvas labyrinth was featured in Washington DC on the grounds of our nation's capitol in conjuction with a photographic exhibit of labyrinths around the world, past and present. She is introducing the labyrinth experience to ever growing numbers of people of all ages and persuasions. She is a founding member of TLS and sees the labyrinth as a symbol for these challenging times as we learn how to be inclusive as we work to find peace at home and in the world.
