Tilly Doro designer Nogah Rotstein has been collecting charms, seashells and stones for as long as she can remember.
“My grandmother Tilly was a holocaust survivor, " Nogah says. "She taught us that nothing should be wasted or taken for granted. Her favorite gifts were the ones we made by hand and that value has stayed with me.”
Years later, encouraged to be creatively curious, resourceful and playful, Nogah founded Tilly Doro with the idea of creating modern heirlooms. Over the years of treasure hunting she amassed a collection of vintage jewelry, which she used to create one-of-a-kind necklaces that infuse old pieces with new life. Guided by intuition and allowing for accidents, she began a career as a jeweler – creating a new story with each unique piece. She gained further experience working as an assistant designer making private label accessories for Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and Free People.
Nogah continues to be inspired by history but evolved to working with different materials and techniques; sculpting and hand-forming wax into textured shapes that are then cast in metal. These simple totems are paired with fabric, dyed rope, or enamel, juxtaposing clean refined elements with an organic hand-made feel and bursts of color. Influenced by nature, symbols, asymmetry and balance, her jewelry reflects the spirit of the ancient past within a modern aesthetic.
Dedicated to sustainable and conscious business and production choices, Tilly Doro uses deadstock and repurposed materials as much as possible. Each piece is handmade with love.
