Item Description
I was inspired to create this chair to honor the BOLD, BRIGHT, and BRAVE people who might not be famous or familiar, but have made a direct impact on our pursuit for a breast cancer cure. These people are the grassroots soldiers, scientists, advocates, and supporters whom earned their BOLD STRIPES. The BRIGHT STARS who are surviving in hopes of a cure; and the BRAVE HEARTS who illuminate and clarify the dilemmas confronted by women and men with-and at risk for -the disease..one of which was my friend who lost the battle, Kristen. Kristen was known as "Hardcore," and sadly, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, passing away a short time after her diagnosis. It's important for me to honor her memory by fundraising for WBCC's mission so one day we will find a cure.
Item Special Note
About The Artist
I got involved with WBCC at the suggestion of artist Mary Kae Nelson. I've met so many fellow survivors, growing my art skills at the same time! I am a pediatric and young adult soft tissue sarcoma fighter and survivor--the WBCC and Rare Chair ladies graciously welcomed me into this project so I can honor my friend Kristen. While my specific type of cancer, MPNST, effects only about 200 people each year, with further research and collaborative efforts among all cancer organizations we will together be able to save all lives. It's inspiring to pay it forward, to help make a difference to my sisters in the fight.
