Item Description
Growing a garden and healing from cancer are both journey’s that require a lot of hard work, adapting to the seasons, weathering storms both physical and emotional, pulling out the weeds and coaxing, tending and nurturing the seeds of hope to help them grow and flourish. The expertise & caring of my medical team, the love & encouragement of my friends and family, the joyful & fun energy of my fellow Rare Chair Survivor Artists & the support from WBCC have all helped keep my garden growing since my breast cancer diagnosis in 2014.
To create my chair, I repurposed an antique rocker and transformed it into a colorful garden by painting, sewing and I hand felted a butterfly to live in the garden! Have hope, life can get better “today caterpillars are tomorrow’s butterflies.!
Item Special Note
About The Artist
I am delighted and thankful to be alive & healthy today, 4 yrs after being diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I am inspired by people, nature & making art and have had careers as a Social Worker & a Teaching Artist. I am Mom to an adult son & daughter & have a 6 yr old grandson.
I am honored to contribute to the mission of the WBCC as as Rare Chair Survivor Artist. It makes me happy to spend time with the other artists as we encourage each other in creating our chairs. It is reassuring to me to spend time with other women who have been touched by breast cancer and are out living life to the fullest. I have deep respect for the work done by WBCC on behalf of all of us in WI- it is an effective, hard working, knowledgeable and committed group that advocates for better care, research, education & prevention.
