The U.S. Open is one of the four major championships of men's professional golf and is the national championship of the United States Golf Association. As Pebble Beach Golf Links celebrates its Centennial in 2019, it will be hosting its sixth U.S. Open.
The USGA’s relationship with Pebble Beach goes back nearly a century. Just 10 years after Pebble Beach opened, it was selected to host its first USGA championship— the 1929 U.S. Amateur. Pebble Beach has gone on to host 11 USGA championships, and that total will reach 13 after the 2018 U.S. Amateur and 2019 U.S. Open. Pebble Beach made U.S. Open history in 1972 when it became the first championship played on a course that is open to the public. “Pebble Beach is a magical place,” said Tom O’Toole, chairman of the USGA championship committee. “It is one of our most treasured U.S. Open sites.”
