Item Description

Pit-fired pot, 5" high x 6" wide This pit-fired vessel is not glazed; instead, its coloring comes from organic materials such as horse manure, pine needles, egg shells, banana peels, salt and other substances. It was "fired' in a 3-foot deep earthen hole, covered with organics and wood, set on fire and left to burn for 24 hours. The flames, swirling air, heat, smoke, ash and cinders all collide and conspire to make the pot singularly unique. The absence of glaze combined with low-fire bisque temperatures makes the pot more porous and delicate than ordinary glazeware; however, this pot's interior was coated with tile sealer and will hold water. It is not food or dishwasher safe
