ABOUT LISA CHASON
Lisa Chason is a N.Y.S. Certified teacher in Art (k-12) and Elementary Education. She has instructed classes in the public and private schools, at the Catskill Art Society and taught private lessons for children and adults, for the last 20 years.
The New Paltz Art Studio grew out of my many years of teaching children in the public schools. 'Please teach after school art classes!' was a repeated request from many students and parents over the years.
With only 40 minutes per week of art in schools, students yearned for more time, and I felt more and more compelled to find it for them. In this wonderful studio space, I can now provide an environment where students do indeed engage in the creative process for extended blocks of time.
Students are introduced to new ways of expression and just as importantly, are free to explore their own wonderful ideas with thoughtful guidance. They are encouraged to make choices about their work as I guide artists through the important process of decision making from a creative standpoint.Their choices are informed by one on one discussion about the development and goals of their own work, through the use of applied skills and concepts about art, and by increasing their awareness of the arts from a cultural/ historical perspective.Students come away with, not only artistic skill, but with increased focus, greater problem-solving skills, a willingness to take risks and a higher sense of self-esteem.
