Item Description
Join Michael Kimmelman for a Walking Tour of the Times Square area
See the neighborhood with New York City native and the New York Times architecture critic, who will lead a group of ten people. He will explore spots of historical significance but also hidden gems, places that have made Times Square famous for theater and the beating heart of a vibrant metropolis.
The easy walk, roughly an hour and a half long, will take place on a fall weekend day in 2024.
For up to 10 people.
This is a "sign-up" where participants will pay a fixed price ($125 each) to join the walk. This is not a bidding situation. Sign-up yourself and ask friends to do so as well!
Following in the footsteps of Michael Kimmelman's book, The Intimate City, based on a series of walks he took through various neighborhoods during the Covid pandemic, this walk will include highlights like The New Amsterdam, Shubert Alley, The St. James, the Times building, then east along 42nd Street to Bryant Park and Grand Central. Imagine an age when Times Square was still a beaver pond!
This walk will reveal the essence of urban life and its social fabric--the history, plans, laws, feats of structural engineering, architectural highlights, and everyday realities that make up a place Kimmelman calls "humanity’s greatest achievement."
