Just a little bit about our organization. We were founded in 2008 by Joey Doolittle a nine year old little boy who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma at just 3 months old. Whenever Joey went to the hospital for his chemo or ohter procedures, he looked forward to having alittle fun while he underwent the not-so-fun treatments. Getting his port accessed, having blood drawn, getting shots and receiving chemotherapy were just some of the "not-so-fun" things. But playing card games, coloring, watching movies, painting, and sometimes getting to pick out a toy from the toy closet always cheered him up. After one particularly harsh day of treatment, Joey went to the toy closet and noticed that they were getting low on toys. Hesitantly, he picked out a toy and went home. Later that evening he asked his mom, "Would people give a little kid money?" When asked why Joey explained that he wanted to make sure that the "kids, like me" went home with a toy. He wanted to fill that toy closet. He even pledged his own money. It was thrugh Joey's concerns that Joey's Toy Box was born.
On July 4, 2008 after a 9-year battle against his disease, Joey Doolittle pased away. Joey was inspirational as a battle tested veteran, fighting a disease that grips so many children and their families. But being only 9, he thought of his life in simpler terms. He just wanted to help provide some comfort for the kids like him.
